On Friday, May 31, the Varsity Academic Team easily qualified for the playoff rounds of the 37th National Academic Championship after winning their matches 4-1. The team will compete on Sunday in the playoffs.

Seniors Alan and Ben Cooper, Michael Bellion and Eddie Zuckerbrot, along with advisors Jen Newitt and Matt Davison are representing Friends Academy at the Washington, D.C.-based tournament, which runs over three days.

Each team will play in at least six official tournament matches. According to the tournament's website, "all 6-0, 5-1, and 4-2 teams will make the playoffs." To qualify for the championship, each team must win an academic competition (local or regional) of at least 8 teams or finish in the top 15% of any tournament.
