Celebrating National Women and Girls in Sports Day

Written by
One of the great things about Friends Academy is that our youngest students can learn through the mentorship and leadership of our oldest.

We have been celebrating National Women and Girls in Sports Day throughout the month of February with various activities and panels hosted by our female varsity athletes. The panels were hosted by Charlotte Semlies '22, Caroline Dineen '22, Nyah Thomas '22, Isabella Sha '23, and Madison O'Sullivan '22.

During a presentation to the Middle and Upper Schools the panel was asked the question: Why is gender and equality in sports important to you? Charlotte answered: "I don't want other girls to think they should be treated as less than. I want them to know they can be powerful and strong. It does not matter your gender."

To continue the celebration of National Girls and Women's Sports Day our Varsity Girls Soccer Team coached Lower School girls PE classes. The girls participated in circuit drills to increase their skills in soccer and scrimmaged with the girls varsity team.
