Students present months of research on Cartography and Quantum Computing to Math Fair judges.

Two Friends Academy Middle School students have been selected to advance to the final round of the Long Island Math Fair at Hofstra University on Friday, April 12th – 8th grader Charlie Englander (Quantum Computing) and 7th grader Senuli Peiris (Cartography).

A total of 11 Middle School students presented months of research in an abstract and presentation to judges and peers in a preliminary round on Friday, March 8th at Suffolk Community College. "The students all did an excellent job of representing our school," said Middle School Principal Deb Schoman.

Eighth grade Math teacher Erin Nolan and 7th grade English teacher Kathleen Schalk mentored the group of students over six months, as each student investigated and developed a topic. Math Fair judges are typically teachers, college professors, or professionals in math-related fields.
