Members of the Upper School Model UN Team competed recently at Plainview-Old Bethpage HS, where team leader and junior Denise Lee (far left) won honorable mention in the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Members of the Upper School Model UN Team competed in their opening conference at Plainview-Old Bethpage HS as team leader Denise Lee (11th) earned an Honorable Mention in the United Nations Human Rights Council.

"Model UN is a club in which students attend conferences where they act as delegates of the United Nations and simulate UN committees," explained faculty advisor Ruth Lloves. Students learn about diplomacy, public speaking, and collaboration.

This year, Lee and Advisor Lilly Brown (11th) added five new conferences to the team's schedule. At their first conference students tested their collaborative skills and created solutions to complex international issues such as LGBTQ+ rights, ethicality of torture, and many others.

"We are excited for our next conference at Hofstra University, taking place from March 1st to March 3rd," finished Lloves.
