After a two-year hiatus, our 11th grade students recently had the opportunity to visit our nation’s capital on this annual trip. Students began with a visit to the Slave Memorial at Mount Vernon and after reading selected biographies aloud, shared a Quaker moment of silence. A walking tour of the monuments, led by Middle School History Teacher Dave Frazer, closed out the first day.

IMG_7135On the second day, students selected a museum tour based on their personal and academic interest – The Hall of Fossils or Gems at the Museum of Natural History, Hirshhorn Comtemporary Art and Sculpture Garden, and The National Museum of American History – before meeting up for a group tour of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This kind of hands-on historical perspective will help our students dig deeper into texts and curriculum back in the classroom.
