At Friends Academy’s college signing event on Tuesday morning, 11 senior athletes announced their commitment to 10 colleges in six sports across multiple divisions and conferences of NCAA competition.
The student-athletes announced their decisions during an hour-long, press-conference-style event inside the gymnasium. The festivities were attended by families, friends, coaches, teachers, and teammates.
“This is one of the best days of the year for our department,” Friends Academy athletic director Matthew Johnsen told the crowd. “We’re celebrating our athletes who are going off to play in college next year and taking the next step in their athletic journey. But there are some people we have to thank first. We have to thank our coaches, our teammates, and most of all our families who have made so many sacrifices along the way — all the late nights, endless practices, and so many games — to get these athletes to this point.”
In the coming weeks, even more Friends Academy student-athletes are expected to commit to colleges and continue their athletic careers at the next level; senior Cynthia Eustache committed to Women's Track & Field at Wesleyan University earlier this year and will be honored in the coming days.
